The disciplinary action taken will be reviewed and approved by the president or his designee. Even though Washington State decriminalized marijuana possession under one ounce for adults over age 21, it is still illegal under Federal law to possess, 使用, 或者分发任何数量的大麻. 占有, 使用, or distribution of any amount of marijuana at any time is also not permitted for students under SPU policy.

Alcohol consumption ca使用s a number of marked changes in behavior. Even low doses significantly impair the judgment and coordination required to drive a car safely, increasing the likelihood that the driver will be involved in an accident. Low to moderate doses of alcohol also increase the incidence of a variety of aggressive acts, 包括虐待配偶和儿童. Moderate to high doses of alcohol ca使用 marked impairments in higher mental functions, severely altering a person's ability to learn and remember information. Very high doses ca使用 respiratory depression and death. If combined with other depressants of the central nervous system, much lower doses of alcohol will produce the effects just described.

Research also indicates that children of alcoholic parents are at greater risk than other children of becoming alcoholics.
