在过去的20年里, Kimberly Segall’s research has been shaped by collaborative work with torture survivors who protested for reparations, with women activists who led empowerment groups and have fought as guerrilla fighters, with women writers who have re-shaped their lives and identities in trans-national crossings. She has worked on solidarity projects in Shaqlawa, 伊拉克, during sanctions and amidst the civil wars, and on reparations projects in Cape Town, 南非, during the era of the Truth and Reconciliation hearings. Leading workshops on resistance strategies, she has initiated forums for women in refugee camps through Caritas with Khawla Hadi, as well as co-facilitated workshop on strategies of protest with Aneelah Afzali, at the American Muslim Empowerment Network in Puget Sound. 接受过后殖民研究方面的培训, her approach considers theater activism, 政治表现, 以及抗议策略.

In these spaces of performance activism, her work with healing strategies and emancipatory tactics have emerged from her experiences in 南非 that began over twenty years ago, 正如她的第一本书所记载的那样. Drawing attention to the ways women activists use local resistance strategies, 她网易彩票app性别的书, 媒体, and resistance shows how women claim and name their own political forms and their own alternative feminisms and non-western agencies that, 实际上, 是 执行民主 (锡拉丘兹,2013). These protest modes expose neo-imperialist violence that have objectified Arab American, 非洲, 南亚, 和你.S. 穆斯林.

在她最近的一本书中, she shows how the icon of the female protester and her alter-ego the female superhero fills screens in the news, 在影院上映, 在数字空间中. The female protester, though, has been subject to a legacy of discrimination. Superheroes in the Streets: Muslim Women Activists and Protest in the Digital Age follows the stories of both famous and grassroots Muslim female protestors, bringing c是ful attention to protest modes and online national icons. Author 金伯利·韦德·西格尔 shows how they have been reinventing the streets and remaking racialized codifications. Segall highlights their creativity in crafting protest 媒体 of posters, 说唱集会歌曲, and digital images that reinvent the icons of superheroes and of feminist icons, carving public spaces into inclusive and digital territories.
